Pushing through vs. being pulled, FCBD, and more

I’ve had an idea come to me multiple times over the last decade that I haven’t been able to crystallize until relatively recently.

Here it is: are you pushing or are you being pulled?

Some days I wake up and it feels like life is happening to me or around me. Those are the days where I’m probably tired from a lack of sleep or some other biological necessity and I’m counting down the clock.

I’ve got work to do, but it’s more passive. I’m being pulled through my day minute by minute until either the work is done or it’s time to punch out.

Those days are a drag. Too many in a row and it feels like I’m a passenger in my own life.

Contrast that with the feeling of pushing through.

Some days it’s show time. We’ve got a job to do and we’re going to make it happen damnit.

It’s not a matter of waiting out the clock. It’s about main character energy and taking action. It’s about beating out the clock and getting to the goal as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Those days kick butt. The work is usually the same, but I feel way more accomplished. Even more so when I’m working as part of a team.

The only difference, at least from what I’ve observed is the perspective on what I’m doing.

The mindset shift of choosing to look at the day as a challenge, as another opportunity to kick ass and take names, as an opportunity to learn and grow so you can be even better next time is massive.

Let’s have more of those days.
