MVP147: Category One Games and How Scott Church Built a Business on “Dead” TCG’s
Hey there!
Let’s just get into it and introduce Scott Church.
Scott is the owner of Category One Games, an online only store that specializes in dead TCG’s. Games that have been written off and dumped in the clearance sections of stores in the past are the bread and butter of Category One Games and Scott has a thriving business because of them.
During this episode we dig into:
How Scott built his business on card games that most store owners wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot cattle prod,
how he identifies the games that are going to sell,
how he leverages the online communities to make sure he’s always buying and stocking products,
the struggles of working with a legacy system and how Scott markets his store,
and a ton more.
Cheers,
Tom Traplin
PS. Sorry for the slow upload schedule.
Summer is upon us and this season has been a busy one, both in regular life and Manaverse work life.
Not that I’m complaining! I’m get to work with some really awesome game store owners and pull some really good results for them.
We just did a 12 month review with one client who’s business is up 34% over last year with just under a million in extra revenue, and a massive chunk of that was from the ad campaigns and email marketing we ran for them, so we’re feeling pretty warm and fuzzy about all that!
We also just got approved as a Shopify Partner recently, which is super cool!
Having worked with a good chunk of the most popular ecommerce platforms at this point, Shopify has consistently been the easiest to work with and I feel has the most potential for game stores that want to build a good ecom website for their business, so it’s pretty cool to be in the Partner program.
I’m planning more content based around all of the stuff we’ve learned in working with game stores so far, and I’m also looking at refining our offerings for the Manaverse Marketing Agency based on the past year, but more info on that later.
